London's New - and Old - St Pancras Station

London's new EuroStar International terminal at the old St Pancras Station is an extraordinary blend of modern and traditional.

Nearby are the British Library and Wellcome Collection medical museum, making this area a new tourist hub.

Platform 9-3/4 of Harry Potter fame is in the adjacent King's Cross Station and has its own, enormous fan base.

Kew Botanical Gardens

The Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew has a treetop walkway, a new attraction along with its giant glasshouses, water lily house, carnivorous plants, and other botanical and architectural treasures.

The Tower

A day - and night - out: By day, see the crown jewels, Tower Bridge (below), the ravens and other attractions at the Tower of London. Afterward, take a journey from the Middle Ages to today by crossing the street to St Katharine's Dock, a waterside residential and retail complex with a wide array of pubs, pizzerias and restaurants.

Victorian Cemeteries

The old ones are the best. Highgate Cemetery in north London (top two pictures) and Kensal Cemetery in west London (bottom) illustrate the architectural splendor of burialplaces that, today, also offer a walk in the country.

Similar Victorian necropolises are found in other British cemeteries - notably in Edinburgh, Scotland.
